Add or edit DNS records

Connect your domain to a website, email service, or verification service using the DNS tab.

Before you start

  • Copy the record type and values from the service you are connecting.
  • Check that the domain uses DNX DNS. If another provider hosts your DNS, make the change with that provider.
  1. 1

    Open the DNS tab

Click My Domains, open your domain, then click DNS. The editor separates root-domain records from subdomain records.

Choose the section for the root domain or a subdomain such as www.

  2. 2

Choose Domain records or Subdomain records

For a record on the domain itself, use Add record in Domain records. For a name such as www, use Add record in Subdomain records.

  3. 3

Choose the type and enter the value

Select the record Type, then enter the value supplied by your service. An A record asks for an IPv4 address. A subdomain record also needs its name. Use the fields shown for the type you selected, and keep existing records unless you intend to replace them.

    Review and save

Click Save DNS to apply the pending changes. To abandon edits before saving, click Discard. If validation highlights a field, correct it and save again.

  5. 5

    Check your service

After the update completes, use your service’s verification step or visit the connected site. DNS changes may take time to become visible.

What happens next

The saved records appear in the DNS tab. The service you connected can verify or use them once DNS updates are visible.

Need a little more help?

Should I use an A record or a CNAME?

Use the exact type requested by your hosting or service provider. An A record uses an IPv4 address; a CNAME uses another hostname.

How do I remove a record?

Use the delete control beside the record, then review and click Save DNS. Removing records can affect the services using them.

The editor shows read-only records or a notice

Read the notice before continuing. Availability depends on the domain’s DNS setup and the state of its current operation.
